AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 80-BORE PERCUSSION SELF-COCKING POCKET-REVOLVER, UNSIGNED, MODEL 'BALLS PATENT', no visible serial number,
and possibly manufactured by H. Balls of Birmingham circa 1858-59, with blued octagonal 4 1/4in. barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, scroll engraving to the sides of barrel-throat, borderline engraved top-strap with scroll engraving to the front and around the standing notch rear-sight, two-piece blued iron frame with borderline and scroll engraving, the left hand side marked 'H. BALLS PATENT', colour hardened six-shot plain cylinder with milled band to the leading edge, polished spurless hammer with rocking automatic safe below, scroll engraved rocking oval trigger-guard with cocking spur, chequered walnut one-piece grip profiled to the frame with shallow domed and scroll engraved iron butt-cap, the left hand side of barrel mounted with a borderline engraved rammer marked 'PATENT', securing on a screwed stud, expertly re-blued and re-coloured throughout, action slightly at fault
